As a beer and cigar enthusiast myself, I would like to share a helpful guide that will ensure you are pairing the right Belgian beer with a perfect, complimentary cigar.
The guide below – featuring two pairings of Global Beers with cigars rolled from around the globe – is based upon Bruce Hackmann’s point scale system and his word description approach. This should ensure the best Belgian beverage experience with a cigar that will undoubtedly enhance the flavors and aromas of each sip of beer.
On top of both the scale and word description approach, some of these combinations are a personal choice of mine. I have a pretty good feeling that these cigars and beers will definitely go great together. That being said, the perfect cigar and beer pairing is completely open for discussion. I would love to hear your thoughts on other great pairs in the comments below.
And of course, if you want to pair any of these cigars with the beers below, Famous Smoke Shop features all of the brands listed below as a retailer of cigars online.
Monk’s Cafe & 7.2×54 Hoyo de Monterrey Sultan Double Maduro
For my Belgian beer lovers out there who are familiar with the famous restaurant and bar in Philly called Monk’s Cafe, this one is for you. This delectable tarty beer has a somewhat of a fig and red grape flavor with a good bitterness as it finishes. I would rate this beer around a 7 on the point scale. To complement such a bitter beer why not smoke a Hoyo de Monterrey Sultan Double Maduro known as the “espresso of cigars” as the flavors are expressed with coffee and roasty notes. The strength of this cigar would come in around a 6.
Troubadour Obscura Stout & 6×52 Camacho Triple Maduro Torpedo
This Belgian stout features deep rich notes of dark fruit with a hint of Belgian sugar and roast coffee as it finishes. To compliment such an experienced and complex beer why not match it up with the Camacho Triple. This cigar has been known to known to baffle even the most experienced cigar aficionado as it is never bitter or overpowering. In fact the dark cigar is full of earthly flavors which exhausts white clouds of cocoa and roasted coffee aromas.
